Template or Not to Template a Stone Slab?

The answer is “YES,” particularly when the stone boasts unique veining characteristics, is a rare and sought-after stone, and comes with a high price tag. Templating a slab refers to the process in which you carefully identify and select the specific sections of the slab that you wish to have cut for designated areas. For instance, if you are designing a full kitchen backsplash positioned directly above the stove, it becomes essential to deliberately choose which part of the stone you desire to showcase in that prominent area, as it will serve as one of the main focal points. Typically, templating is carried out with the slab fabricator to ensure everything goes as planned!

Kitchen Stove Area

Here is a picture of an unfinished stove area that is currently awaiting the installation of the hood before templating. This necessary installation must occur before they can proceed to create the stone slab template for both the backsplash and the countertop.

After the fabricator visits the house to take measurements for the backsplash and countertop, he will proceed to lay out the template on the stone for the designer's approval regarding the precise cutting areas. As you can see the prominently feature of the copper veining will be captured on right side of the stove backsplash.
